Sono un uomo nuovo, ma continuo ad amare l’imprevisto
È da sempre il puer irriverente e scanzonato della televisione che, dopo lo strabiliante successo di VivaRai2, lo ha incoronato re del mattin show. Da qui l’idea (partorita dalla moglie Susanna) di esportare il format vincente anche a Sanremo durante la quinta e ultima edizione dell’amico Amadeus. È nato così “Aristonello”!
Abituato a dare il buongiorno agli italiani, si è ritrovato a rimboccare loro le coperte… come ha affrontato il cambio di fuso orario?
Il giorno del debutto mi sono svegliato, come ogni mattina, alle 4 e ho vagato da solo per Sanremo. Speravo di dormire durante i tre break del Festival, ma niente.
L’idea di un Viva Rai2 post Sanremo è venuta a sua moglie Susanna…
Me lo ha suggerito lo scorso anno sapendo che amo molto il Festival, ma conducendo il programma di prima mattina, non era semplice rimanere sveglio fino a quell’ora…
Ne è stato felice?
Non vedevo l’ora! Il sogno di presentare Sanremo è legato alla veste di co-co: dirige il maestro, codice numero… Per me è stata una novità. Da casa sembra facile, ma devi essere professionale perché la gara è una cosa seria, importante.
Quest’anno l’abbiamo vista, invece, molto più in pace con sé stesso, come avesse lasciato a Roma apprensioni e stress da prestazione…
Sono un uomo nuovo. Non mi preoccupa più nulla. Saranno gli anni che passano, sarà questo D’Alema (si accarezza i baffi brizzolati) che si sta imposessando di me. Prima di iniziare ho pensato: dovesse finire oggi la mia carriera, mi sentirei a posto: ho una famiglia meravigliosa. Cosa mai potrà accadere? In fondo è una gara di canzoni.
Dopo anni di amicizia e 5 Festival, come si è evoluto il rapporto tra lei e Amadeus?
È ora che lasci sua moglie e si metta con me!
Un momento di Sanremo che ricorda con maggiore emozione?
L’ultima serata è stata speciale sia perché “gli Amarello” erano insieme su quel palco per l’ultima volta, sia per la presenza in sala di entrambe le mie figlie compresa Olivia che, per l’occasione, è venuta dall’estero.
E un aneddoto divertente?
Nella serata delle cover, per trasformarmi in Manuel Franjo (storico ballerino della Cuccarini), le truccatrici mi avevano fatto il contouring che mi rendeva irriconoscibile. Durante il balletto, Lorella, avendomi visto solo alle prove, non aveva capito si trattasse di me e pensava a uno scherzo.
C’era qualcosa che, sul palco, si era ripromesso di non fare?
Esagerare. A volte lo faccio e mi devo contenere.
Cosa la appassiona ancora in questo mestiere?
L’imprevisto. Ciò che amo e vado cercando ogni volta che entro in scena. Non mi piace la perfezione: predisporre tutto nei minimi dettagli toglie l’improvvisazione e quindi la magia.

He has always been the irreverent and light-hearted puer of television, which crowned him king of the morning show after the astonishing success of VivaRai2. Hence the idea (conceived by his wife Susanna) to export the winning format to Sanremo for the fifth and final edition of his friend Amadeus. Thus was born “Aristonello”!
Used to saying good morning to Italians, you found yourself tucking them in… how did you cope with the time change?
On the day of the debut I got up at 4am, as I do every morning, and wandered around Sanremo by myself. I hoped to sleep during the three festival breaks, but nothing happened.
The idea of a post-Sanremo Viva Rai2 came from your wife Susanna…
She suggested it to me last year, knowing that I love the Festival very much, but with the early morning programme it was not easy to stay awake until that hour…
Were you happy about it?
I was looking forward to it! The dream of presenting Sanremo is linked to the role of co-presenter: “the maestro conducts, code number…” It was a novelty for me. From home it looks easy, but you have to be professional because the competition is a serious, important thing.
This year, however, we have seen you much more at peace with yourself, as if you had left the anxiety and stress of performing in Rome behind…
I am a new man. Nothing worries me anymore. It must be the years that have passed, it must be this D’Alema (he strokes his greying moustache) who is imposing himself on me. Before I started, I thought: if my career ended today, I would be fine: I have a wonderful family. What could happen? It is just a song contest.
After years of friendship and five festivals, how has the relationship between you and Amadeus developed?
It’s time for him to leave his wife and settle down with me!
What is the most emotional moment you remember from Sanremo?
The last evening was special, both because the “Amarello family” was together on stage for the last time, and because of the presence of my two daughters, including Olivia, who came from abroad for the occasion.
And a funny anecdote?
On the night of the premiere, to transform me into Manuel Franjo (Cuccarini’s historical dancer), the make-up artists had done the contouring that made me unrecognisable. During the ballet, Lorella, who had only seen me in rehearsal, did not realise it was me and thought it was a joke.
Was there anything you promised yourself not to do on stage?
To exaggerate. Sometimes I do that, and I have to restrain myself.
What still excites you about this job?
The unexpected. That is what I love and what I look for every time I go on stage. I don’t like perfection: arranging everything down to the last detail takes away the improvisation and therefore the magic.
